What happens during a colon hydrotherapy session?

Before your first appointment we send a detailed consultation form through our appointments app, which takes a full medical case history and explains the procedure. On the day, your therapist talks you through what will happen, and you are draped throughout in a private room. The treatment itself takes approximately 25 to 45 minutes, with additional time allocated for consultation.

Does colonic irrigation hurt?

Our treatments are conducted in a dedicated Colonic Irrigation Room with en-suite bathroom and shower facilities, ensuring complete privacy and comfort. We use a closed water system, making the procedure odourless and painless. Some clients may experience mild stomach cramping or occasional nausea during treatment. Your therapist stays with you throughout and can adjust or stop the treatment at any point.

Colonic Irrigation is very safe when performed by our qualified therapists and naturopathic nutritionists. We use only CE-approved medical devices, and the water undergoes advanced filtration before entering the colon. All therapists meet the highest professional and ethical standards. We use medical-grade disposable speculums and tubing for every treatment.

What qualifications do your therapists hold?

Treatments are carried out by qualified practitioners. Sharon Mountford has practised as a Naturopathic Health Practitioner since 2003 and is a member of the Complementary Medical Association, the Guild of Naturopathic Iridologists International and the Guild of Naturopathic Colon Hydrotherapists. Natalie Enderby is a RICTAT-qualified Colon Hydrotherapist, also qualified in abdominal massage and hypnotherapy.

What equipment do you use?

We use a CE Medical Approved and FDA Approved colonic machine with built-in water filters and an advanced filtration process. The machine has specific controls to maintain a comfortable water temperature and pressure throughout. Medical-grade disposable speculums and tubing are used for every treatment and are never reused.

Is it embarrassing?

No. There is minimal odour as the system is closed, and your dignity is maintained at all times with proper draping in a private room. Our professional therapists are accustomed to clients feeling nervous, especially before their first treatment. We ensure you feel comfortable and at ease throughout.

How should I prepare for treatment?

Accepted Answer

We recommend not eating for at least two hours before your appointment and ensuring you are well hydrated. If possible, follow a diet of vegetables, fruits and grains for 2-3 days beforehand rather than heavy foods and red meats. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior. Increase your water intake during the week leading up to your appointment, aiming for around 2 litres of room-temperature water daily.

How will I feel afterwards?

Most clients feel well after treatment and are able to return to their normal activities. Some people feel tired or notice mild cramping for a short period afterwards. A complimentary herbal tea is provided after your treatment, along with aftercare and nutritional guidance. Individual experiences vary.

What aftercare should I follow?

We recommend not overeating, and eating simply prepared food, chewing thoroughly. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol for around 24 hours. Avoid vigorous exercise and weight lifting for 24 hours. Your therapist will give you personalised aftercare advice at the end of your appointment.

How many treatments do I need?

Every person is different and various life factors create different stresses. We recommend booking a single treatment initially and discussing recommendations with your therapist during the consultation. In our experience, a course of 3 treatments over an initial 2-3 week period is a common starting point, with maintenance treatments thereafter if appropriate.

Who is colon hydrotherapy not suitable for?

Accepted Answer

Treatment cannot be undertaken during active infections, active inflammation (such as diverticulitis, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), painful fissures, painful haemorrhoids, cancer, or pregnancy. Absolute contraindications include congestive heart disease, severe uncontrolled hypertension, severe anaemia, liver cirrhosis and kidney disease. Your full medical history is taken before any treatment, and your therapist will tell you if colon hydrotherapy is not appropriate for you. If you have a diagnosed medical condition, please speak to your GP.

Will colon hydrotherapy help me lose weight?

Colon hydrotherapy is not a weight-loss treatment and we would not recommend it as one. If diet and weight are your main concerns, our naturopathic nutrition consultations address those directly, and your practitioner can advise on whether they are appropriate for you.

Do you offer longer programmes?

Yes. Alongside individual appointments we offer personalised programmes that combine colon hydrotherapy with nutritional therapy, lymphatic drainage massage and other treatments available at the clinic. Your practitioner will discuss what is appropriate during your consultation.

Are there optional add-on treatments?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A pre-blended herbal infusion may be added to your treatment, either booked in advance or requested during your session. A Coffee Enema using organic enema coffee is also available as a retention enema. This must be pre-booked as it adds approximately 30 minutes to your treatment time.
