There are so many causes of IBS and bloating. Here are some of the key issues that you can address without medications.....

    Drink Your Water Strategically

Drink your water 30 to 60 minutes before all meals and not with meals. This is crucial because drinking water with meals dilutes your digestive juices, which weakens your digestive system as a whole. If you need to drink some water, make it no more than 200mls.

    Understanding Digestive Issues

The timing of water consumption is critical for optimal digestion. When you drink water 30 to 60 minutes before eating, it:

    • Prepares your digestive system for incoming food
    • Allows digestive juices to remain concentrated
    • Improves nutrient absorption
    • Supports healthy bowel function

By avoiding water with meals, you maintain the strength and effectiveness of your stomach acid and digestive enzymes, which are essential for breaking down food properly and preventing IBS symptoms like bloating, gas, and discomfort.

    Additional Tips for IBS Relief

    • Eat slowly and chew thoroughly (this releases the enzymes in your saliva to break down carbohydrates)
    • Avoid eating on the go (being in the sympathetic nervous system by rushing food affects all digestive processes) — only eat when you are relaxed
    • Manage stress levels (stress directly affects digestion). Look at vagal toning to lower stress levels
    • Consider colonic irrigation for deep cleansing — a gentle warm rinse of the colon can help reset your whole system
    • Support your gut with probiotic-rich foods — fermented foods (homemade) can help your gut immune system and bowel regularity
    • Avoid trigger foods that cause bloating
    • Stay consistent with your water intake timing

    Test Your Stomach Acid

Test your stomach acid using the sodium bicarbonate stomach acid test. Acid reflux/indigestion can often be caused by low stomach acid. Low stomach acid weakens the aortic oesophageal sphincter which can cause symptoms of acid reflux. If your stomach acid is low, you can take 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 4oz of water 20 minutes prior to all meals as this will regenerate the stomach lining.

DGL 400mg chewable capsules can coat and heal the stomach lining and help to wean off Proton Pump Inhibiting medicines without side effects.

    Dysbiosis of the Gut

Having the wrong mix of bad to good bacteria is very common in today's modern world. This can weaken your immune system and affect your emotional and mental wellbeing. Did you know that 70% of our immune system is in our gut? We make serotonin (our happy mood chemicals) in our gut.

Cleaning up the diet, eliminating ultra processed foods, sugar and keeping gluten and dairy low in the diet is key along with consuming 30 different plant based foods a week. Avoid too much red meat and please only consume this with leafy green veggies as your gut needs this insoluble fibre to clean it through the colon. This will help to maintain a healthy microflora/microbiome to help keep your colon regular, a flatter stomach whilst supporting your immune system and mental health.

    Parasites and Heavy Metal Toxins

Most people will have parasites and heavy metal toxins. These can cause symptoms of IBS and bloating. You can join our 6 week guided Gut Transformation Programme to help rebalance your whole digestive system and enjoy better overall health.
